6 famous BJJ celebrities who may surprise you

It’s great to be a well-known celebrity. If your face is known by millions of people around the world, you are set for life. Even if you don’t have any talent, being famous guarantees you a lot of opportunities that others could only imagine. It’s just another form of fame that we see so much in Hollywood these days. But what if I told you that some famous BJJ black belts don’t have any portraits or pictures of themselves hanging on their academy walls? How would you feel about it? You will probably think they don’t want to brag or show off.

Arguably the best sport of all time! BJJ has often been called a lifestyle; more often than not, it’s for good reason. When you first get involved in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you’re learning techniques geared towards self-defense, conditioning, and improving your grappling skills to help you on the mats. One thing I’ve found as I’ve been training with fellow BJJ practitioners is that a lot of times they’re also well-known public personalities.

Being a celebrity doesn’t necessarily mean you were famous beforehand. Many were born into their fame and then others have made themselves one through hard work and determination which is impressive either way. In this blog post I’m going to go through the 5 most famous BJJ stars (in my opinion) and what makes them so special in addition to sharing some interesting facts about them. But before proceeding further let me tell you that if you want to start some workout you need to purchase comfortable and stretchable gym outfits that must aid comfort in your training and workout session.

Guy Ritchie

Guy Ritchie

Guy Ritchie is an established, Hollywood actor and producer. In 2008, he released the movie “RocknRolla” with two “smoking barrels” and has recently been seen in “lock slock.” However, he’s also a BJJ black belt under Renzo Gracie and has won numerous tournaments. His training helped him prepare for his role as a boxer in the film “RocknRolla” (2008). He didn’t take any acting lessons but instead relied on his own BJJ experience to develop the character.

Renowned for his work ethic and commitment to excellence, this international star is an established member of the Hollywood elite. As a prominent Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, Guy has made it his mission to help people achieve success in life through discipline and dedication.

Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich

Two-time Golden Globe Award Winning Actress, Milla Jovovich is not only popular for her talent and beauty but also for her passion for martial arts. She started training in Defense Munitions Underwater Simulation (D-MUS) in 2004 at the Los Angeles Fight Club. After learning D-MUS, she started studying Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Milla Jovovich decided to get the blue belt to prove that it doesn’t matter your age you can always achieve something new. Jiu-Jitsu can be practiced at any stage of life. She’s now working with UCLA to provide women with self-defense classes through the university to help them feel comfortable and confident when they are in danger.

Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain is a celebrity chef, the New York Times best-selling author, and host of CNN’s Parts Unknown. Many are impressed by his culinary skills, which earned him shows like A Cook’s Tour, No Reservations, and The Layover. What fewer know is that he’s also a mild-mannered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) fan.

Anthony Bourdain, a celebrity chef, and wildly famous (infamous?) food journalist became a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete. Would that surprise you? It’s true. According to his interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he took up a martial art to help alleviate some health issues that he was having. He has become accomplished in BJJ and even traveled with Rickson Gracie to Brazil for a month to continue his instruction in the sport.

Keanu Reeves

Keanu Reeves is 45 years old. He has enjoyed success in the acting industry for more than 30 years, even though he’s never won an Oscar. How then, did he become a BJJ Black Belt and an elite BJJ tournament judo player? In 2013, it was announced that he had earned his BJJ Black Belt. He has also won several Judo tournaments and continues to practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu today. Reeves has been a dedicated martial artist for many years. He grew up in Australia, where his father was a professional boxer.

While he did not pursue the sport himself, he became interested in Jiu-Jitsu after seeing it as an adult. He has been training since 2001 and is known to be an extremely humble man who doesn’t like the spotlight on him.
